Mathieu Gosselin (bass player) Born in August 1979 in Levis Québec. Jaco Pastorius, Michael Manring, Victor Wooten and Tony Levin were Mathieu's inspirations as a bass player, but he created his own style. As far as progressive music is concerned, his influences are Yes, Emerson Lake and Palmer and King Krimson. Jazz musicians like : Miles Davis, Béla Fleck, Lost Tribe, and many others influenced him a lot. |
| Titular of a bachelor's degree in musical education and jazz interpretation at the Université Laval of Québec City, Mathieu also studied popular music and jazz at the CEGEP of Drummondville. Right now he’s teaching electric bass at « l’Accroche Notes » one of Québec’s finest private music school. He masters as much the electric bass with 6 strings (fretted and fretless) as the E-Bow (electromagnetic bow for electric instruments), the Chapman Stick® (10 strings - guitar and bass on the same instrument), the bass piccolo, the bass pedal (MIDI programming and sampling). Regardless of his young age, Mathieu is a free lance bass player and arranger for many bands and recording artists (from folk to prog!). He worked with Bob Cohen and GSI, guitar player for Jean-Pierre Ferland; Paule Magnant, guitar player for Dan Bigras; Guy Cardinal; René d'Antoine (ex Bel-Canto); Sense; The D Project; Glass Hammer; IQ; Flower Kings ... And please do not forget his participation to Red Sand’s Gentry and Human Trafficking. He also plays with different cover bands of any music styles (jazz, blues, R&B, folk, rock, etc.) around the area.
